“ALL-AMERICAN” CONCERT AT
THE PATTERSON RECREATION CENTER ON JULY 27TH
On Saturday, July 27th, the Patterson Recreation Center will be the venue for a
family-friendly “All-American” concert by the Southern Dutchess
Concert Band and sponsored by The Duffle Bag, of Patterson, NY. and the Town of
Patterson. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and admission is Free.
The Southern Dutchess Concert Band continues in the great American tradition
originated by the John Philip Sousa Band to entertain audiences with a wide
variety of music. Featuring crowd-pleasing show tunes, popular standards,
marches, light classical and wind ensemble music, the Southern Dutchess Concert
Band consists of more than forty woodwind, brass and percussion musicians from
southern Dutchess County and surrounding areas. The Southern Dutchess Concert
Band is conducted by Steve Pietrowski, band director at Beacon High School, and
managed by Dave Cole, director of The Big Band Sound jazz orchestra. (facebook.com/southerndutchessconcertband)
For this “All-American” Concert, the Southern Dutchess Concert Band
will be performing Patriotic tunes, including “American Patrol”,
Broadway and Hollywood favorites, including a medley from “Beauty and the
Beast”, selections by famous American composers, including “Clarinet
Candy” by Leroy Anderson, popular standards, including “I Left My
Heart In San Francisco”, and, of course, rousing marches, including John
Philip Sousa’s “The Stars And Stripes Forever”! Irving Berlin,
“the greatest American songwriter that has ever lived”, will be
celebrated with a collection of songs he wrote to honor our great country,
including “God Bless America”. Among other selections will be a
special salute to American military service members, veterans and their
families.
This concert will be held in the Patterson Recreation Center, which is a
wonderful venue for a summertime concert. The concert will be held regardless
of the weather, so come and enjoy the amenities of air conditioning, convenient
parking and handicapped accessibility. Admission to the concert is Free and
refreshments will be available for purchase.
